Fraser Brown Mackenna Ltd
Fraser Brown MacKenna Architects is an award winning, design-led RIBA Chartered practice and commercially aware architectural practice. Founded in 1991, the practice has developed a reputation for delivering successful results with limited resources, working prolifically in the education, residential, commercial and arts sectors.
We are ISO9001 and 14001 certified, PAS 91 certified (CHAS), an approved Constructionline supplier, British Safety Council member, and ICO registered. We are members of the Passivhaus Institute and Trust – a member of our team is an accredited PassivHaus designer – along with Architects Declare, Association for Environmentally Conscious Building and The Green Register.
We have extensive experience in delivering housing at all RIBA stages, from houses in small back-land sites to large scale developments of up to 900 units – for local authorities, housing associations and private developers. Our contextual design approach has led to projects in a variety of settings – from rural sites adjacent, next to scheduled ancient monuments, in the green belt or on flood plain settings, through to urban and central sites in conservation areas. We have delivered projects in London and the southeast along with Birmingham, Coventry, Sheffield, Edinburgh, Hampshire, and Dublin.
Completed schemes have arisen from architectural competitions and include award-winning regeneration projects such as Ronaldson’s Wharf in Edinburgh, zero carbon homes such as Merton Rise in Basingstoke and Passivhaus developments for Local Authorities.
In the education sector, we have design and delivered a range of facilities for nursery, primary and secondary schools colleges and universities in the southeast and east Anglia – from small internal fit outs, classroom block extensions through to complete new builds.
FBM are treasurers for the University Design Forum, providing us with insight across the further education sector and thought leadership, learning from research and lessons learnt on other projects in addition to our own.
We are currently delivering two major projects in BIM, both of which are ‘live’ on-site at RIBA Stage 5. The first of which is a £50M new-build 300 unit scheme located in west London for St Modwen Homes. The second is a £60M new build mixed use 170 unit, 25 storey residential building alongside 130,000sqft of commercial floorspace in Watford, for Regal London. We are proud of our long term relationship with leading clients.
In addition to new buildings, the practice has a strong track record in refurbishment and retrofit, including the extension of historic buildings such as the Grade I listed Slade School of Fine Art. The practice won several high profile awards for its energy-saving refurbishment of the G.E.Fogg Building at Queen Mary University of London.
We are framework partners to three NHS Trusts, ten Registered Social Landlords, six Local Authorities and four Universities as well as IBM. We have worked across all London Boroughs.
